Several species of ants are found in or around houses in Florida.   The most commonly encountered pest ants are pharaoh, ghost, carpenter, native fire, imported fire, crazy, thief, acrobat, and big-headed ants.

ANTS

Spiders belong to the class Arachnida, which contains organisms with four pairs of legs, no antennae and two body regions. A shield-like carapace covers the head and the area from which the legs arise. Their mouthparts, or chelicerae, function vertically.

Drain flies are a common nuisance in/around homes and commercial buildings, including sewage treatment plants.

Since these flies often originate in unsanitary conditions, there is the possibility of disease transmission that can affect human health.

Subterranean termites are the most destructive and frequently encountered kind of termite found throughout the state. Although they nest in soil, subterranean termites can attack structures by building tubes that connect their nest to wood in structures.

SUBTERRANEAN TERMITES

Unlike subterranean termites, drywood termites spend almost their entire life cycle inside the sound, dry wood members upon which they feed.

Winged adults or "swarmers", shed wings, ejected pellets, and galleries inside wood are typical signs of a drywood termite infestation.

DRYWOOD TERMITES

One of the most destructive termite species in the world today. In the United States it causes tremendous property damage resulting in enormous treatment and repair costs.

They have large colonies, infest a wide variety of structures and the territory of a single colony can be up to 300 feet.

FORMOSAN TERMITES

Because of their moisture requirements, structural infestations of dampwood termites are associated with sources of free water. These include wood-to-soil contact, wood exposed to roof leaks, or wooden siding or ornamentation exposed to rainfall or sprinkler irrigation.
